We were asked to explore a narrative while using image recognition and targets. I augmented an illustration from a book "The very hungry caterpillar" by Eric Carle. This book was my favorite among my mom read to me when I was a kid, and I wanted to see the caterpillar in real life outside of the paper book to play with him. So, I brought him into the mixed reality so that I could feel like that he is existing in the same world as I am. At the end of the story when the caterpillar becomes a butterfly is the most dramatic and touching part of the book. I brought the butterfly into life and made him fly away in real life (mixed reality).
First I took the image of the butterfly and cut them into three parts - left wing, body and right wing. Then I made a script for the whole body to fly like a butterfly, and another script for both of the wings to flap. Now, the app I just created will show the butterfly flying away when I target the illustration of the butterfly at the end of the book!
